A bit of history
This ‘industrial’ area of the field of psychology really started to come into focus during the First World War in response to the need to rapidly assess new troops for various duty stations. After the war, the huge industrial boom in the US and Canada gave impetus to the growth of organizational psychology. WWII propelled psychology to the forefront by providing opportunities for psychologists to work in so many areas required by the war effort, such as hospitals, cockpit design, pilot performance, suitability, training, intelligence, covert psych-operations, and many more.
